A few words about
Hi! My name is Darrah Torres and I am a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant with Sleep Wise Consulting. My husband, Graham, and I live in North Texas with our sweet boy, Welles.
Prior to joining the Sleep Wise Consulting team, I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
I have spent the majority of my career working for a pediatric hospital. After becoming a mom, I began working for a local university as part of their clinical faculty.
When our son was born, for the most part, he was a good little sleeper…until about 4 months old. That is when everyone’s world was turned upside down! I went back to work part time after being at home for four months and he went to “school.” He attended school for nine hours a day and would sleep, at most, 1-2 hours for the entire day…and, that was usually across 3-5 naps! Any routine we had tried to establish was gone as we were attempting to make up for lost sleep on the days he was not at school. My husband and I were trying to create a healthy structure and routine for our little one, but it always felt like we were taking 2-steps forward and 1-step back!
We tried everything we could think of to get him to sleep.
We swaddled, we bounced, we sang, we walked the halls (for what felt like hours)! Over time, those methods seemed to be less and less effective. We knew our little one needed sleep in order to grow and develop; however, we were not sure how to make that happen.
A friend of mine introduced me to Sleep Wise Consulting and we are forever grateful! Our sleep consultant provided us with a customized plan along with the support and guidance that we needed to implement it. We went from walking the halls to teaching him independent sleep skills. He was able to self-sooth, and put himself to sleep without any intervention from us. Welles became the best sleeper at school and Graham and I were able to spend quality time together again in the evenings.
As I began talking to other parents about our experience, I found that, more often than not, they too were struggling with sleep issues.
I quickly became passionate about helping other families get the sleep they need. I am excited to help bring peace and sleep into others’ homes through working with Sleep Wise Consulting!
